Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing Katrina and Ryan’s bright + colorful NH summer wedding at Waterville Valley Resort. The entire day was magical, with beautiful vibrant colors, a fun-filled, joyful atmosphere, breathtaking mountain views, and two people who are perfect for each other!
Katrina and Ryan have an adorable baby girl, Penny, who was there throughout the day! The family of three all wore vans on their wedding day, as well as the groomsmen! However, little Penny’s Vans were extra special as Ryan hand-painted them with intricate flowers in the bright, bold colors of their wedding!
Katrina started the day getting ready with her bridesmaids. She picked out dresses in a beautiful array of colors. While the colors wore all different, they matched in tone and complemented each other wonderfully!
Katrina had two different wedding dresses, as she fell in love with one dress, and her mom really liked the other. They compromised and bought both! Her first dress was a lacey, long fitted dress that she wore during the first look, and the second half of the reception. She then wore the other, more flowy, dress during the ceremony and first part of the reception! It didn’t matter which dress she was in though, Katrina looked absolutely gorgeous in both!
First Look
During the first look before Katrina came out, we put Penny down behind Ryan. He was surprised at first when he turned around, but that quickly turned to joy as he picked his little girl up to wait for her mom! It was the sweetest moment when he turned around and saw Katrina for the first time, while holding their daughter! They took a few pictures together and with their bridal party before heading up to their ceremony on the chairlift ride overlooking the beautiful mountains.
Bright + Colorful NH Summer Wedding Ceremony
Ryan came down the aisle holding Penny in his arms, which was so sweet! I am sure that image will be treasured and a sweet sentiment on her wedding day when he walks her down the aisle again! Their ceremony was officiated by their friend Chris, who had lots of surprises for them. He invited Katrina’s mom up to give a traditional Greek blessing. He also asked the couple about the other’s special quirks prior to the big day, and got them gifts based on what the other said.
Ryan had revealed that Katrina likes to leave half eaten fruit all around their house, so Chris gifted her a grapefruit! For Ryan, Chris gifted him a children’s book about space because Katrina told him how much he loves space and could talk about it for hours. It was such a sweet and personalized ceremony that was all about this amazing couple! I loved all the little details Chris incorporated into the ceremony to make it unique and special for Ryan and Katrina!
After their beautiful mountain view ceremony, the newlyweds and I ventured all around Waterville Valley Resort’s property! We even stopped by their hotel room to grab a few quick photos with their sweet dogs, Mellie & Nova! They were so cute!
Waterville Valley Resort Wedding Reception
After exploring the grounds, the couple headed to their reception! They had a guitar there for all their wedding guests to sign in lieu of a guest book. Keeping with their bright, beautiful, and colorful wedding theme, they gave guests wildflower seeds as their wedding favor. I loved their creative twist on these traditions. It fit them so well, and I loved that their day was truly a reflection of them and their vibrant love for each other!
Everyone in attendance agreed, including Ryan’s brother who gave a sweet toast with a true sentiment about how colorful both of them were, and how together their “love is art”! It was the perfect way to put it. Katrina’s brother also gave a toast to start the night off. His speech was a hilarious tribute to his sister and her new husband. He shared many embarrassing stories, and also noted that Katrina really took Avril Lavinge’s advice to heart and found her “sk8er boi”!
After the toasts and dances, I captured the couple cutting into their beautifully decorated wedding cake covered in brightly colored wildflowers. I even caught Ryan’s reaction to Katrina smearing cake on his face. It was the perfect candid moment!
Golden Hour Wedding Portraits
After some reception formalities, we headed back outside for some epic golden hour portraits! We were able to walk the beach, which was stunning in the evening with the sun setting. I loved the streams of sunlight peeking through the trees as they walked together, hand in hand!
Katrina and Ryan, I mean it when I say your wedding day was magical! It was a true reflection of you and it brought me so much joy to photograph! I had the greatest time capturing your love story and celebrating you both. Congratulations again!
