Getting Ready Tips for the Morning of Your Wedding

Your wedding day is one of the most important and magical days of your life!  As your big day arrives there are a few things you can do to prepare so that your wedding runs smoothly and you have a stress-free relaxing experience. The following getting ready tips for the morning of your wedding will help you make the most of your time and ensure you are well taken care of and have time to savor the moment.

Getting Ready Tips

01. Delegation

If you wake up on your wedding day and there is still something that needs to be done, it’s time to hand that duty over to someone else. Delegation is KEY to a stress free wedding day. I know it might be hard to let go, but it is more important that you get to relax on the morning of your wedding day. The rest of your day will be so fast paced and full of emotions, you must take advantage of this time to get pampered and relax!

02. Tidy Your Getting Ready Space

Make sure that your getting ready space is free of plastic water bottles, wrappers, and other objects that may make your photos look cluttered. While it’s good to eat and stay hydrated the morning of your wedding, try to keep those items out of sight!

03. Natural Light

If possible, find a getting ready space that has a lot of windows or natural light. Being a natural light photographer, I create my best work when the sun is pouring through a window into the room! Fluorescent lights can make skin appear harsh and yellowish, which you definitely don’t want! Natural sunlight is the best way to go to get that soft, light and airy look to your photos.

 04. Allow for Extra Time

This tip is an important one and I would bet that most former brides would agree: always plan for more time than you think you will need to get ready. This way if something happens you have a buffer of time. Sometimes things happen that are out of our control, like hair and makeup running behind. If you give yourself more than enough time, you won’t be stressed if something doesn’t go according to plan.

05. Have a Wooden Hanger for Wedding Dress

Consider purchasing a nice wooden hanger, personalized or not, for your dress instead of using the plastic one that comes with it. This simple upgrade will give the photos of your dress hanging an extra touch of elegance. If you do opt for a personal hanger, it will add a bit of sentimental meaning to your wedding day photos.

06. Wait to Put On Your Jewelry

I always ask brides to refrain from putting on any jewelry until after their wedding gown is on. I love using jewelry to shoot the final steps. Close ups of my brides putting on their earrings, or having their best friend help them with their necklace always turn out to be my favorite shots! Plus, your jewelry pieces will be needed with the rest of your wedding details to photograph first!

Also, don’t forget to take off any hair elastics from your wrists to prevent harsh indentations!

07. Matching Clothing for Your Wedding Party

Look into purchasing matching robes, pajama sets, or flannels for you and your wedding party! Having everyone coordinate while getting ready adds a special touch to your images as all of the colors will coordinate nicely. This is also so fun and creates a great memory to share with your crew. However, make sure that whatever you purchase can be taken off easily so that it does not ruin your hair and makeup!

08. Don’t Forget to Eat!

EAT! I really can’t say this enough. Your wedding day is going to be a whirlwind, and you will be surprised at how worn out you will get. I promise you will fit into your wedding day attire if you sit down and pop that Subway sandwich in your mouth. You’ll thank me later!

09. Enjoy Your Day

Last but not least, ENJOY every second! Remember, the most important part of your wedding day is that THIS IS YOUR DAY! Life is never perfect, so don’t stress about every little detail. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to go with the flow and savor the moment. Go ahead and have a mimosa or two-just don’t overdo it.

I hope these getting ready tips help you plan your wedding day morning so that you can relax and enjoy it.
